This bug is fixed in unstable, but not in (frozen) testing. Have you considered asking debian-release for inclusion of ocaml-tools in testing? The actual testing behaviour is, in my opinion, as annoying as making impossible to work with ocaml-tools installed. I doubt ocaml-tools will be accepted in testing, but IMO it's worth a try ...
I really don't think that this bug is important enough to be accepted in sarge. Moreover, I won't ask on d-r for the following reasons:
- The package has not been so much tested and I could have made a mistake in it, although I've tried to do it as carefully as possible.
- The debconf message is not translated.
- I don't think that ocaml-tools is unusable in sage's shape: many users are not using vim and for vim users the omlet mode is IMHO much better than the official caml mode (though I agree we should not make the decision for the users).
However, since you are part of d-o-m who maintains this package, if you don't agree with this, feel free to ask for its inclusion into sarge.
