Openoffice.org uses its own version of freetype, with the bytecode
interpreter disabled in order to be extra-conservative with apple's
patents. Instead, they enable the autohinter, which leads to really
really ugly fonts (as many people have noticed).
These patents are crap, though, and nobody pays attention to them. This
includes Debian -- Debian's freetype policy has been to enable the
bytecode interpreter (check out libfreetype6).
It doesn't make sense to leave the bytecode interpreter disabled for
debian's openoffice.org. Would it be ok to enable it?
