OK, so you let openoffice 1.0.2 generate a new user settings directory,
similar to the advice given in README.Debian.

Well, the diff isn't very helpful because I have neither the original or new
files.  I see this line:

-ERR FAILURE in CONFIGMGR: CONFIGURATION: Update Violates Constraint: Group 
Member Update: Node is read-only !^M

which perhaps means that you have a permission problem, but I can't really
tell.  I need the original directory.  Can you make a tarfile of that
directory and send it to me please, so I can try and reproduce the error?

Also, does the problem occur only with one window manager, or does it not
matter which window manager you use?
