A1: Your past working experience does not matter. It is mandatory you are currently a student. I remember in the past they allowed you to have a part-time job during GSoC, though it is absolutely not recommended.
A2: Personally I wouldn’t mind you use Mac as the host machine as long as you do the job well. Your chosen project seems to fit in any *NIX systems.
