It's hard to know what to test without going through the whole process.
BTW, you did notice my check-path target in debian/rules?

Hmm. I tried this and then there were other problems when I tried to
build extensions. But I don't recall what they were right now. Most of
the add-on packages work. I had finished the package and was uploading
to master when something I was building broke. I killed the upload and
found another way to set the paths.
