I would say leave it in CORE. Use -rpath to get the libperl.so you want - this is EXACTLY the sort of situation rpath was designed for, it should never have acquired the "always a bad thing" rep it has currently. -rpath'ing /usr/lib is generally bad. -rpath'ing app private directories is often vital.
