Package: debian-policy Version: 3.1.1.1 Severity: wishlist To avoid confusing mixes of distributions (like installing a Debian .deb in Corel or a Corel .deb on Debian), I think we should add a 'Distro: debian' control field to all packages and make Corel use 'Distro: corel'.
This not only would avoid a mess with broken dependencies (I've heard somewhere Corel had some...), but also make possible to check at first look (supposing someone was crazy enough to mix both) which distro did one .deb come from. It would even be possible to add the "intended distribution" to the field (like: 'Distro: debian (potato, woody)' or after a release 'Distro: debian (2.2)) -- System Information Debian Release: woody Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux cesarb2 2.2.14 #1 Fri Feb 11 20:16:40 BRST 2000 i586
