No, it doesn't. There must be an option to select standard packages, or else people will end up with the *wrong* standard packages installed due to badly ordered alternatives in the dependencies of the packages installed by tasksel. For example, I did an install with tasksel. I selected the SGML tasks. PSGML depends on: Depends: emacs19 | emacs20 | xemacs21, sgml-base, sgml-data Therefore I got emacs19. (of course we shouldn't even have emacs19 in the distribution at this point, but that's not relevant here) I wouldn't mind making task-gnu-emacs and task-xemacs packages to fix this particular problem, but this is just one example of what can happpen. Also there are some Standard packages that everyone who has ever used GNU expects to be installed ... the first one that comes to mind is 'less', but I'm sure there are others.
