It's already rolling ... -------- |Date: Wed, 5 Jul 2000 22:44:41 +0200 |To: Martin Schulze <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, SZALAY Attila <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> |From: Arthur Korn <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> |Subject: proposed virtual packages: system-log-daemon and kernel-log-daemon | |Hello Martin and Attila. | |I'm currently packaging [1] msyslog [2] and have proposed |virtual packages for system-logging-daemons in order to allow |alternatives to sysklogd to integrate better and cleaner into |Debian. | |This is how I see these packages, I'm mailing you in order to |discuss this, so this is just what I have in mind at the moment: | |system-log-daemon: Packages providing something that reads |messages from /var/log, provides /usr/sbin/syslog-facility and |rotates it's default logs if it has any. | |kernel-log-daemon: Packages providing something that reads |/proc/kmsg or uses ioctls to obtain kernel logs. Doing something |sensible with them is optional :). | |I'd like to know what you think about this. | |[1] http://www.korn.ch/msyslog-deb/ |[2] http://www.core-sdi.com/ | |ciao, 2ri -------- No reply until now. I'll wait another two weeks (I am away from July 17. to July 22.), then I'll file wishlist-bugs against syslog-ng and sysklogd. PS: Today I had my first system install on a SPARC, potato of corse. Went really smooth, compliments to Debian generally and the sparc people espetially for making my favorite OS work on SPARC too! ciao, 2ri -- Why is "abbreviation" such a long word?
