Package: debian-policy
Version: 3.2.1.0
Severity: normal

Section 4.1 tells to use something like:

INSTALL = install

ifeq (,$(findstring nostrip,$(DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS)))
INSTALL += -s
endif

This is usually wrong, as automake Makefiles also use INSTALL for
non-binary files. I tried this and got a complaint while it attempted
to strip a manpage :(

INSTALL_PROGRAM should be probably be advertized instead.

Also, packages using debhelper may just call dh_strip and don't need
to care about adding -s flag to install.

Hi,

        Policy now mentions
 a) the example is informatiohnal only
 b) the example is an example -- and you may have to tweak in order
for it to work for you
c)example now sets up and uses whole bunches of INSTALL vars to drive
 home this fact.
