By strict reading of this example, it would seem that these images would only be available to localhost. This is not the case. It's important that these images be available to any host. And yes, this seems like a reasonable proposal. I'd like my mailman images back (without hacking httpd.conf.). One thought: is /var/www Debian policy? If so, /var/www/images could also exist.
