Oh, I get it.  The sentence is trying to say, "you can prompt the user
directly or through debconf".  I wonder why it doesn't just say that
then. :)

Ok, ok, I'll shut up now, but seriously, thanks.  I hadn't thought of
that interpretation, and it does, indeed, make a lot of sense.
