Package: debian-policy Version: 3.9.8.0 Severity: minor Hi,
policy 9.1.1 nr 8 and the upgrading checklist still mention that Packages must not assume that /run exists without a versioned dependency on initscript "until the stable release of Debian supports /run". This language will lure the unobserving package maintainer into adding this versioned dependency today when upgrading a long neglected package and working along the upgrading checklist. I therefore suggest removing the language from policy and the upgrading checklist. If you don't want to rewrite history regarding the upgrading checklist, please consider adding language like "packages can assume that /run exists without a dependency on initscripts" to the appropriate place in the upgrading checklist. Greetings Marc
