Hello Debian Policy people. This is to tell you that I've finally changed base-files in unstable to not create /etc/staff-group-for-usr-local anymore on new installs, following the TC decision about this in Bug #484841 and the transition plan explained in the file /etc/staff-group-for-usr-local itself.
If we decide to continue with group staff, next step would be to make sure packages follow the plan by the time buster is released as stable. With a little bit of help from debhelper maintainer (on which most packages build-depend) and people doing Continuous Integration (piuparts), I truly believe this would be a feasible goal for buster. OTOH, if we decide to forget about group staff completely (as I read Ubuntu did), we would still need to ensure that packages forget about group staff as well. [ I, for one, would prefer to reunificate with Ubuntu in this issue and get rid of staff completely, but this is just my opinion ] Should we maybe ask TC again about this? A lot of time have elapsed since they made their decision, and the world has changed a lot since then. Thanks.
