[...] The critical issue is your hardware rather than the kernel version; support for AirPort goes way back with the kernel, particularly the Debian kernels. As mentioned before, AirPort Extreme is a no-go thanks to the nefarious Broadcom chipset used in that mini-PCI card. In short, if your PowerBook is not a Titanium and/or your iBook is not a G3, you are out of luck for built-in wifi.
