I did not try this, but the nvsetenv utility from the powerpc-utils package knows about boot-args:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] [~] nvsetenv
[...]
boot-args=
aapl,tdm-units=
boot-device=/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/[EMAIL PROTECTED]:2,\\:tbxi
Maybe it is enough to just set the value via nvsetenv to "-v"?
