Yup.  I got a couple of these `too large' messages, not only for
time_t, but also for uid_t and gid_t, when using GNU tar 1.13, on
various platforms.  I suggest you to downgrade to 1.12 while a couple
of other problems in GNU tar 1.13 are settled down.
