This is an old problem. I remember raising it at the genesis of the GNOME project; Miguel apologised, as it was also the very beginning of it all. I proposed the creation of one (1) source tree with one (1) makefile, along the lines of the linux kernel and the X11. A unique tarball appeared where all the required sources were gathered together, although still in different directories and no single makefile. Then the monolith tarball was gone, and here we are again with the good old problem and its consequences. Sergio
