Calling the different kernel trees 'several linux-based operating system
kernels' is maybe a bit too strong wording; but yes, 2.4 kernels from
Linus are not working well (at best...) on PPC.

Currently, for powermacs, your best bet is using BenH's rsync tree on
penguinppc.org (do:
rsync -auvz --delete penguinppc.org::linux-2.4-benh linux-2.4.benh
and you'll get a local copy)
