Thanks, Colin. I haven't had a chance to try any of the latest suggestions from people yet, but some sort of upgrade is looking like the easiest/best solution. To go to a new kernel would mean, I think, getting it on CD, as that's how my present system is set up (I think), and I haven't managed to built a bootable CD yet (I'm booting off the installation CD). If I have any of that wrong, though (a distinct possiblility), or you have suggestions on how to best deal with that, I would be most appreciative. Thanks again for your suggestion. Mike
