        I can't really tell, since my experience with Macs is somewhat
        limited, but I can tell you that I could not even have X
        working with kernel 2.2.

        Also, with kernel 2.4, you can configure the himem option, so
        you probably won't have to boot with a mem parameter to the
        kernel.
