I recently got myself a new USB mouse (and keyboard). I don't
use gpm (i.e., "the command line"), but I had no problems
getting them to work with both Linux and MacOS.

I just had to recompile my kernel (I usually compile minimal
kernels) to include USB support and support keyboard and mouse
(and printer, since I have one).

Then, for the mouse, since I was already using
/dev/input/mice, I didn't have to do anything else. If you
don't have these device files, you might want to create them
        with the /dev/MAKEDEV script.

        Hope this helps, Roger...
