I agree with the other poster, you definitely need the 2.4 kernel (new-powermac flavor). I hope that's what you installed, but I fear you didn't because you said your yaboot version was 0.9 which indicates a potato CD (the current woody version is 1.3.6).
In any case, to include a debian-novideo option in your installed system, just copy the debian-novideo image section from the .conf file on the CD where you found it to your installed /etc/yaboot.conf; then run ybin.
