I've also got a TiBook, I have the 800 version, with the readeon M7, 32 MB. I'm experiencing the exact same problem when I put the baby to sleep, then try and wake her up, I get no video and it seems the machine has turned itself off. I'm using the fbdev driver in my X config, purely because I couldn't get the radeon driver to work.
