You can delete the patch partitions using Linux's fdisk.

I don't know. When I tried some time ago, I could boot from a
MacOS 9 CD and install it on an image, but I couldn't boot. I
didn't spend too much time on that, but Jesus Climent told me
to use a -force option when describing the partitions or
something alike. I still haven't tested that on my computer,
though.
