figgered it out, for some reason, every time I restart safe_mysqld, it deletes /var/run/mysql/mysql.sock.......
ln -s /tmp/mysql.sock /var/run/mysql/mysql.sock fixed it right up...... although I'm still not sure why the hell it's deleting it.....
