The ATI chip is able to do at least partial MPEG2 decompression (I
think they are able to do a full MPEG2 decompression). It is known as
motion compensation. When I start mplayer, there is a mention that
motion compensation is not found. You might try to see if you have
something special about this in your xdpyinfo (XVideo-something).
