Hi Winther, does 'lspci' yield anything useful on your machine? On my machine (not a powermac!), I obtain something like:
<snip/> 00:10.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage 128 RE <snip/> (You should get something corresponding to you video card.) The "00:10.0" corresponds to what is asked by the debian install script, *except* that it is hexadecimal, and XF86Config wants it decimal. (So for my configuration, I had to tell "PCI:0:16:0" to Debian.) You can also look at your log files (/var/log/XFree86.0.log, or if you use gdm /var/log/gdm/\:0.log (this is probably different with kdm or xdm)), to see if you get more instructive messages. I'm afraid this won't directly solve your problems, but maybe it'll bring you a step further.
