Many moons ago, I had a borrowed PMac 9500/180MP here and one
of the first PPC kernels that I tried to compile had me
naively trying to include CONFIG_RTC (I don't remember if I
        kept CONFIG_PPC_RTC or not).

The kernel Oopsed all the time I tried to boot (it didn't even
reach the point of calling init) and removing that allowed me
        to boot fine.

I don't know if it had something to do with SMP or not.

I also remember people having problems with hwclock, but I
don't know if that was related to CONFIG_RTC or not.
