Note that the current version of the driver is a bit hackish as it contains a mismatch between the soft modem core in the driver and the firmware that gets downloaded to the modem. This was done to work around a problem with the newer firmware, but can cause other issues or misbehaviour.
I talked to Marc Boucher during OLS about this, he'll be releasing a new version soon (read: in the upcoming days) with the uptodate firmware as the reason for the problem has been found & fixed in the meantime. Ben.
