And I am now a bit more ashamed of myself... Some googling helped me find a workaround (not really a solution) to this problem using the hpmount from the hfsplus package. It was posted in January on the list, and though I was already subscribed, I didn't remember it... Sorry for the noise, and thanks to you all for your answers, both problems solved.
