Hi, Dean Hamstead writes:

You should probably install kernel-image-powerpc, which will keep track of future releases. > im curious as to what power3, power4 and the seemingly vanilla > powerpc packages. This refers to specific processor chips. The Power3 was never built into a Mac, they are exclusively found in IBM RS/6000 boxen. A variant of the Power4, the IBM 970, is built into Apple's new PowerMac G5. The flavour called powerpc actually supports a wide range of different 32bit PowerPC processors (60x, 7xx, 74xx), hence the vanilla name. > the package details dont seem to elaborte. maybe thats some > constructive critisism on the packages. It is, but it comes a bit late. Revision 2.6.6-5 contains descriptions, and is already uploaded. Since it also adds the above-mentioned tracker packages, it's stuck in the new queue and may take some time to reach unstable. You can read the descriptions at <URL:http://www.theorie.physik.uni-muenchen.de/~jens/kernel-patch-powe rpc/kernel-patch-powerpc-2.6.6-2.6.6/debian/control>, though.
