you have to specify it on the kernel line : console=ttyS1,115200n8 Err, that may be console=ttyS01,115200n8 for 2.4 kernels. 115200 no parity 8 bit no flow control (hw or sw) is what the OF uses. it is active when you disconnect either monitor or keyboard, if i remember well.
