So i testet Kernel 2.6.12.5 from sid. Same Problem here. G5 tturns out
after 3 hours. i tried to compile my of kernel from kernel.org but the
linking failes.

linux-image-2.6.12-1-powerpc64 2.6.12-5 should solve this.
It is in sid but not yet in etch, just apt-get install it or something.
