My 5400 rpm 80gb ATA drive in my powerbook just failed the other day. It was making a weird buzzing sound whenever I tilted the laptop, eventually it got so bad that the drive wouldn't read without rocking my laptop back and forth. My linux partition was formatted with ext3 journaling, so my question is was there something to my setup that may have endangered the lifetime (2 years) of this drive?
