I would refer you to this (I know it's not from Debian, but this is just excellent documentation): http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-ppc.xml?part=1&chap=4 You need to create an Apple Bootstrap partition, which is generally at /dev/sda2.
