Hi Mitchell, I have an almost identical machine: 1.07 Ghz model iBook G4 (early 2004). So I did two simple tests:
First I changed input to Mic in alsamixer, then recoded some sound: arecord -f cd t.wav and played it back: aplay t.wav Second I played this file: http://ristosu.wippiespace.com/pub/tecbeat.au with: cat tecbeat.au > /dev/audio Both tests worked well.
