If your question is about the status of NVidia drivers on the PPC plateform, I can tell you that my Quad G5 had always worked fine first with the nv drivers, then with the Nouveau drivers since before the Squeeze release (I am in always in testing with this machine), and since about 3 weeks, even 3D acceleration works mostly fine with the Nouveau Dri-experimental drivers from testing (the only problem I discovered so far, is a hard freeze of Xorg with superTuxCart -- but the system is still accessible by ssh, so no kernel hard freeze, until now). The NVidia NV43 [GeForce 6600], from the PowerMac has better 3D performence than the Radeon R280 from my MacMini. But probably if you want the best performence and the best 3D support you should aim for a Mac with a R3xx graphic card.
