https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=709181 mentions the use of
an option:
options drm_kms_helper poll=0

I wonder if that could be used as a kernel argument somehow, or if initrd
would automatically use it if placed in a .conf file in /etc/modprobe.d
