I remember using this on another ppc machine once. It took a long time to find the bad ram, as it only could test parts of the memory (and i never was sure it found all the bad areas). However, as that machine had multiple RAM-Modules, after some time I was able to identify the faulting one and replace it.
However, I do not have spare RAM-Modules anymore and new compatible ones seem to be expensive, too much for my case. Thats why i was looking for something more reliable than memtest. If nothing better exists, it must be enough. > > >> a grep in dmesg for address shows: [13111508.893820] Unable to >> handle kernel paging request for data at address 0x9f58ff44 >> [13111508.903327] Faulting instruction address: 0xc0102848 >> [13111511.947531] Unable to handle kernel paging request for data >> at address 0x9f58ff4c [13111511.948923] Faulting instruction >> address: 0xc01045ec [13279566.770278] Unable to handle kernel >> paging request for data at address 0x9f58ff4c [13279566.771667] >> Faulting instruction address: 0xc01045ec > > I'd kind of expect more random failures if it was bad RAM, I think > it's more likely this is just a kernel bug. The last update before that was at 17th of april at 14:58, the next one after the oops at 4th of june 21:39 ( i was updating due to misbehavng daemon, i only seen the oopses in the logs after that). Well, today morning i shut down, removed dust and restarted with the 3.2.0-2-powerpc kernel, no trouble so far. I will keep monitor the situation. Hmm...256MB is a little bit to low memory....else that raspberrypi thing could replace the system... from ppc to arm...looks like those non-x86 platforms are keep hunting me ;-) thanks for the input HP -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.17 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iEYEARECAAYFAk/N4/EACgkQjLvx8ViUjYJgXACeOplw4EeU3p8YThjDCwK2oN3U DYUAnj7d9TaX6P8j31TXdybAVqb9q37K =7n9C -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [email protected] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
