If your G5 is a "PowerMac11,2" like mine, then Peter's "4.4.0-rc7-powerpc64" kernel works well for me with the "VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation NV43 [GeForce 6600 LE] (rev a2)" graphics card.
