Ummm,,, my mistake. Sometime in the past, I don't remember when, while wrestling with the Nvidia problems, I set apt.conf to prefer jessie. Which explains all the missing stuff. I corrected that to prefer stretch (hope I don't break anything having to do with the Nvidia driver!) and I'm updating it to full-on stretch (except for Peter's kernel) as I type. We'll see how that turns out!
