i tried several options
append="quiet splash radeon.agpmode=-1"
append="quiet splash video=radeonfb:off radeon.agpmode=-1"
but still software rasterizer
tried also to fresh install jessie, but did not behave.
any other suggestions?

I can't remember from the top of my head, but I would try the famous
radeon.agpmode=-1 trick in yaboot.
