There is already a newer image available which fixes the kernel issue for me on sparc64: > https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/ports/2019-01-26/ > This occurred before it went looking for a network repo, so it must be > talking about the CD image not having an installable kernel. Yes, it is and it's a known problem that can occur during CD build from time to time, nothing to worry about. You can see the kernel is missing by looking into the pool-sparc64/main/l/linux subfolder and check whether the linux-image deb is there. > I decided to “continue without installing a kernel” in hopes that I could get > one from the network repo later on. > > When it came time to choose a network repo, I had no success trying to tell > it that > mirror protocol: http > mirror : ftp.ports.debian.org > directory : /debian-ports/ choose-mirror seems to have regressed in some way that it doesn't work anymore even with the correct mirror data. I will look into fixing the corresponding bug next: > https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=879130 > https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=918428 > Which allowed me to do: > apt intall linux-image-powerpc > and return to the installer where I continued to install a very basic system. > > That ended with “Installin GRUB bootloader” failing when it tried to execute > “grub-install dummy”. Yes, grub-installer doesn't work on PPC Macs at the moment, but I guess that was mentioned on the list a couple of times already. Just go back to the main menu and choose to install Yaboot instead which should work. Adrian -- .''`.
