I wouldn't recommend that approach. Bisecting the kernel is actually the common method of finding such regressions and it's very fast and accurate and also very easy once you got the hang of it. You just need a handful of git commands, a cross-compiler and the basic knowledge how to build a kernel yourself. Cross-building a kernel isn't much different as building a kernel natively.
