Greetings! As some of you may know, I've been maintaining CUPS-PDF at Debian ever since the package was introduced into the repository.
I've been meaning to reduce my Free Software activities for quite some time and I feel that, now that Jessie has frozen, the time has come for me to pass CUPS-PDF maintenance on to the Debian Printing team. I had prepared a 2.6.1-15 release pending the bug reporter's feedback on Bug#614713, but since he hasn't been able to respond on time for the freeze, it has never been uploaded. http://q-funk.iki.fi/debian/pool/c/cups-pdf/cups-pdf_2.6.1-15.dsc I'd be thankful if someone from the Debian Printing team could fetch that, remove my name from Uploaders, put the name for my most recent ChangeLog entry between brackets (i.e. collaborative log entry) and upload it to unstable. Some thoughts for the upcoming maintainers: 1) Upstream never got around finalizing his changes for CUPS-PDF 3.0, hence why I never got around packaging its beta releases. I recommend retaining that approach until 3.0 has been finalized and released. Upstream said earlier this autumn he might get around it soon. 2) Various attempts have been made to patch CUPS-PDF to process everything entirely within the PDF realm, instead of via Postscript filters. Those changes have repeatedly proven unpopular with the users both at Debian and at Ubuntu, since they resulted in the configuration file's content being ignored, which deprives the user from a variety of post-processing options. Btw, upstream (Volker Behr) subscribes to the Debian BTS for CUPS-PDF and he has always been very helpful in fixing issues that concern his upstream code, and quite receptive to improvement ideas as well. If there ever is such a thing as an ideal upstream, he's as close to that as it gets. If anyone needs any help during the transition to new maintainers, just ping me. Cheers!
