The setup is: Printer -(WiFi)- Router -(WiFi)- Laptop > Pinging the server while printing would test > it doesn't disappear. What do you mean by that? Ping the router? Ping cups (which is on my laptop)? I once saw that http://localhost:631/ was unreachable for some time after the error, but I can't reproduce that now. Maybe it's an issue with cups?! Also I saw that when switching on the printer there is a message "backend failed" in the status of the preferences dialogue. When I activate the printer this message vanishes.
