I found a solution (or workaroud)
at:https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/1498366
Change line 109 in /usr/share/hplip/base/sixext.py "return
s.encode("utf-8")"with"return s.encode("utf-8", errors="surrogateescape")".
with this change, the filter works, and the printer prints.

don't use HTML-formatted emails to send your bugs.
Either your email is a well-formatted multipart and the BTS software can
deal with it, or it's crap and it'll choke on it. The one above was the
first line, which only causes a failure to recognize the package.
I'm closing this bug instead of just reassigning it correctly as also
the body is illegible; please resend your bug report with a sane mail
user agent (MUA) and correctly formatted instead.
