The default is the value reported by the hostname(1) command. This is plain wrong in itself, because hostname(1) does not return the FQDN (except when run with -f). Following the advice in hostname(1) does result in the fully-qualified hostname being displayed when the hostname command is used with the correct option. (Granted the command 'hostname' does not return a FQDN, but that isn't what is being advised). Regards, Brian.
