Package: ghostscript Version: 10.05.1~dfsg-1+deb13u1 Severity: important After upgrading my monitor to 4k display with wider color-gamut, started Xorg with 30-bit color depth (DefaultDepth 30 in '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'). 'xdpyinfo' also reports: depth of root window: 30 planes
Most of the other softwares I use displays without any problem. However, 'gv FILE.ps' kept on waiting for the file to open. To understand the issue in opening the file, I tried 'ghostscript FILE.ps'. It showed the following: GPL Ghostscript 10.05.1: Unsupported X visual depth: 30 **** Unable to open the initial device, quitting. Segmentation fault Given that most of the present era monitors support 10-bit colour for R/G/B, more and more people are going to be hit by this lack of support. Therefore, I am marking this as 'important'. Upstream bugs also do not list this issue. -- System Information: Debian Release: 13.3 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable-security'), (500, 'oldstable-updates'), (500, 'oldstable-security'), (500, 'oldoldstable-updates'), (500, 'oldoldstable-security'), (500, 'oldoldstable'), (500, 'stable'), (500, 'oldstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 6.12.63+deb13-amd64 (SMP w/20 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages ghostscript depends on: ii libc6 2.41-12+deb13u1 ii libgs10 10.05.1~dfsg-1+deb13u1 ghostscript recommends no packages.
